Cllrs Mrs C.Todd declared that she is a Babergh District Councillor, and asked that it be noted that her views expressed at this meeting would be based on information available at the time and might not be the same as those expressed at meetings involving other councils.
3) Correspondence
a) Suffolk County Council: Bus Stop locations in Carsons/Kempson Drive
AGREED to write to the County Council supporting their proposal to install formal ‘bus stops’ but to suggest that the raised wheelchair access kerbs are installed at the same time, but certainly without delay. Also to take the opportunity to raise the question of road safety in Carsons Drive (as previously raised by the Road Safety Working Party)
7.06pm Councillor R.R.Sims joined the meeting
b) Safer Neighbourhood Team: Parking restrictions at broom Street/Stevenson Approach junction
The Great Cornard PCSO had written to say that she had approached our County Councillor and the County Council’s Highways department suggesting the installation of double yellow lines at the junction. She felt that this was in the best interest of shopkeeper, customers, and local residents, including users of The Stevenson Centre of which there are many.
Agreed to RECOMMEND to Council that we support the Police in this suggestion and write to our County Councillor and the County highways Department accordingly.
5) Items Brought Forward
a. Road Safety Working Party
Minutes of the meeting of the working party held on 1st July had been circulated.
The Council manager reported that he had e-mailed three County Council officers and written formally to the Great Cornard County Councillor on 2nd July as directed. However, no replies had been received.
The Chairman expressed severe disappointment that a reply had been received from neither the County Councillor nor the three County Council officers, and asked that this be recorded. Other members concurred with this view.
The Chairman added that County Council highways budgets had been allocated to each County Councillor and the Parish Council had been directed to make any requests through the County Councillor.
AGREED The Council Manager will write again to the Great Cornard County Councillor asking for a reply to the Council’s letter of 2nd July.
c. North Cornard Regeneration Group
Councillor Carol Todd was pressing Babergh District Council on further information regarding a start date for the Poplar Road re-development.
