Minutes of the Meeting of Great Cornard Parish Council
held in the Stevenson Centre on Monday 10th December 2007.

1. Apologies for Absence
Apologies were received from Cllrs Mrs.F.A.Jackson and R.R. Sims.
2. Declaration of Interests, Gifts and Hospitality
Cllr Beer declared that he is a Suffolk County Councillor, Babergh District Councillor and Sudbury Town Councillor. Cllrs Sayers and Walton declared that they are Babergh District Councillors and a Sudbury Town Councillors. Cllrs H Todd, Mrs C Todd and M. Newman declared that they are Babergh District Councillors. These members also asked that it be noted that their views expressed at this meeting would be based on information available at the time and might not be the same as those expressed at meetings involving other councils.
3. Chairman’s Address
The Chairman invited all those present to partake of sherry and mince pies after the meeting.
The Parish Council Christmas lights competition will be judged by Cllrs Peter Beer and Anne Harper-Clark together with Cllr Newman’s son Daniel and Cllr Harpers-Clark’s son.
The Chairman had attended the Rotary carol concert in Sudbury, where Pot Kiln Primary School took Part.
The Chairman took the opportunity at the end of the year to thank all those members of the Council who had undertaken voluntary work on behalf of the Council during the year.
The Chairman referred to Cllr Mrs Todd’s recent ‘local difficulties’, he drew attention to her work for the Council, in particular on the Over 60’s Christmas party and on the Cemetery. The Chairman expressed his own support and al members agreed to give their full support.
The first meeting of the Council in January each year is the ‘Estimates’ meeting when Councillors approve a budget for the coming financial year. The second meeting in the month is then the normal monthly Council meeting and the Council’s three committees do not meet until February. The Chairman advised the members that in 2008 there will be committee meetings in January. The meetings for January 2008 will be, therefore,
7th January 7pm Estimates Meeting
14th January 7pm Full Council Meeting
28th January 7pm Committee Meetings.
4. To Confirm Minutes of the Meeting of the Council held on
12th November 2007
i. Cllr M. Newman’s declaration of interest as a District Councillor had been omitted from item 2. Page S29
ii. The School had been miss-spelt in paragraph 3 on page S30.
RESOLVED that subject to the above corrections the Minutes of the Council meeting held on 12th November 2007 are confirmed and are to be signed as a true record.
5. Police Beat Officers Report
The report covers the period from 13th November 2007 until 10th December 2007 NOTED
6. St Andrews Church Report
The newsletter from St Andrews dated 2nd December had been received and circulated NOTED
7. Items Brought Forward
a) Walnuttree Hospital: threatened closure
Cllr D. Thomas declared a personal interest as he has relatives working at the hospital.
The Chairman advised that the County Council Health Scrutiny Committee had met with the re-configuration panel, who had questioned them quite comprehensively.
b) Membership of the River Stour Trust
The planned visit to the Visitor Centre will be arranged in the New Year.
