Minutes of the meeting of the Policies and Finance Committee
held in the Stevenson Centre on Monday 28 January 2008

1) Apologies for Absence
None
2) Declarations of Interest, Gifts or Hospitality
Cllr Beer declared that he is a Suffolk County Councillor, Babergh District
Councillor and Sudbury Town Councillor. Cllrs H.Todd and Newman declared
that they are Babergh District Councillors. These members also asked that it
be noted that their views expressed at this meeting would be based on
information available at the time and might not be the same as those
expressed at meetings involving other councils.
3) Chairman’s Announcements
None
4) Items Brought Forward
a. Village Hall Lease
Cllr Beer reported that he had met with Mr.Sheridan and that the Scouts are keen to meet and discuss the Lease asap.
AGREED that the matter be kept on the Brought Forward List.
5) Correspondence: Neighbourhood Watch; request for permission to place
a sign on the Council’s property
AGREED to give permission for a sign to be erected by the entrance to
Recreation Walk.
6) To consider a request to grant aid a booking for the Stevenson Centre
Cllr Newman declared a prejudicial interest and left the room for this
item.
Agreed to RECOMMEND to full Council to grants aid the use of the
Stevenson Centre to Off Shoot Films on Sundays throughout February and
March.
7) To consider options for the repair of the St.Andrews church clock
The Council Manager informed members that a recent of survey of the clock
found, that whilst the mechanics of the clocks were still in good working order,
the gears were however, worn and as a consequence the clock looses about
five minutes every month.
The Chairman had recently visited the Church with the Vicar and the Church
Architect and it was agreed to give a copy of the survey to the architect.
AGREED to wait for the recommendations of the church architect and for the
Council Manager to investigate the cost of the clock face being refurbished.
8) To consider a proposal to form a Council HR (human resources)
committee
Agreed to RECOMMEND to full Council that the members on the committee
are Cllrs Beer, Todd, Newman, Wade, Proctor, Thomas and Mrs Jackson.
The Committee will meet as and when required.
