Minutes of the meeting of the Policies and Finance Committee
held in the Stevenson Centre on Monday 26th March 2007

1) Apologies for Absence
Apologies were received from Councillor A.C.Bavington and M.Fryer.
2) Declarations of Interest, Gifts or Hospitality
Cllr.P.K.Beer declared a personal interest with regards to his
membership of Sudbury Town Council, Babergh District Council and
Suffolk County Council.
Cllr.H.N.Todd declared a personal interest with regards to his membership of
Babergh District Council
3) Chairman’s Announcements
The Chairman reminded all members to visit the Cemetery before the next full
Council meeting on Monday 23rd April 2007.
4) To discuss the rumoured closure of Wells Hall old School
The Council manager stated that this item had been added to the agenda at
the bequest of Cllr.Mrs.P.White.
Cllr.Mrs.P.White advised that at least ten groups currently use the school and
that many are concerned about the rumoured closure and the possibility of
having to find new premises.
County Councillor.P.K.Beer advised that he had attended a meeting with
Roger Troughton, SCC, where the possible closure and suitable alternative
premises had been discussed, however, no final decision has been made.
AGREED the Council Manager to write to Roger Troughton, stating that the
Parish Council is aware that the idea of closure has been explored and that
the Parish Council would now like a formal response as to the current position
as well as offering the Parish Council’s co-operation in the matter.
5) Possible future funding for WHAC
As neither of the Parish Council’s representatives were present, it was
AGREED to defer the matter to the next full Council meeting.
6) Items Brought Forward
a) Stevenson Centre
The new ramp is now completed, with the planter awaiting lights to be
installed.
AGREED to approach the Middle School for pupils to be involved in the
planting of the planter.

b) Expenditure to date
Copies of the Draft Accounts to date were circulated, with the Council manager
advising that the Council should achieve its target of putting £10k into reserves, with the possibility of adding a further £4-5k to this figure due to prudent spending.
The Council manager advised, that BDC have awarded the PC a grant of £7.5k towards the cost of new play equipment on the Hedgerows Estate.
