Minutes of the meeting of the Policies and Finance Committee

held in the Stevenson Centre on Wednesday 30th May 2007

1)  Apologies for Absence

      Apologies were received from Councillor R.I.Wade.

 

2)  Declarations of Interest, Gifts or Hospitality

      Cllr.P.K.Beer declared a personal interest with regards to his membership of Sudbury Town Council, Babergh District Council and Suffolk County Council.

 

      Cllr.H.N.Todd declared a personal interest with regards to his membership of Babergh District Council.

 

      Cllr.M.D.Newman declared a personal interest with regards to his membership of Babergh District Council.

 

      Cllr.Mrs.F.A.Jackson declared a personal interest in Item 4a) as she is a member of WHAC.

4) Correspondence  

 

a.  WHAC: request for funding

          AGREED to defer the matter to the next full Council meeting.

 

     b.  Cornard Dynamos: request for funding

          RESOLVED to recommend to full Council that £200 be given to the Dynamos from the Twinning Society funds.

 

c.      Sudbury Market Town Partnership Project officer Steering Group:

      Request for Council Manager to attend meetings

          AGREED the Council Manager to respond to the request, stating that the Council would want their representative on the POSG to continue to be an elected member and that the Council do not wish the Council Manager to attend the meetings.

 

d.  1st Great Cornard Scouts: November Fireworks Display

     RESOLVED to recommend to full Council that it would be pleased if the Scouts would, once again, hold the annual bonfire night firework display and that the fees for entry should remain unchanged. Also, to advise them that the Council has agreed to increase their funding of the event to £900.   

 

e.      Success after Stroke: request for a phone line and accommodation address

          AGREED to allow the group to install a phone line for internet use only, as well as give permission for a non breakable mirror to be placed on the wall in Room 2. The Committee however, declined their request to use the Stevenson Centre as their contact address.

 

f.        Babergh District Council: Nominations for Community Achievement

          Awards panel

          AGREED to nominate Cllr.Mrs.C.J.Baker.
