3)   Items Brought Forward

a)     Shawlands: Local Nature Reserve

Babergh District Council had been asked to delegate their power to declare the area a Local Nature Reserve to this Parish Council. A reply was awaited.

b)     Country Park Review

The Council Manager would be meeting Mr. Walters from the Sudbury Common Lands Charity on Tuesday 28th to discuss a contract for the hay cutting in the meadows, and the possibility of more formal ‘warden’ activities.

A number of trees had been cut down in the woodland at the top end of the park. These trees had been planted closely together in rows, with the intention that they would later be thinned out. The thinning out, however, had never taken place. Trees have been removed to try to soften the effect of rigid rows. The stumps remaining will probably coppice from the base.

The Chairman mentioned that he and other Babergh Councillors had been dismayed at the amount of litter on the footpath at the rear of the Stacey Ardley ground. The Community Warden is already arranging clearance and will maintain a watch on this area.
