Minutes of the meeting of the Recreation and Leisure Committee

held in The Stevenson Centre on Monday 27th November 2006

1)  Apologies and Substitutions

      Apologies were received from Councillors A.C.Bavington and R.Sims.

 

2)   Declarations of Interest, Gifts or Hospitality

      

       None

 

3)    Retirement of Groundsman/Engagement of Contractor

      

        Cllr.P.K.Beer confirmed that the Council’s Groundsman, Mr.D.Hunn had now

        retired. The Council Manager had received quotes from three contractors

        and these had been reviewed by Cllrs.M.Fryer and Mrs.C.J.Baker and

        the Council Manager. 

 

        Agreed to RECOMMEND to full Council that Mr.R.Mortimer, be appointed as

        the Council’s contractor for cutting the grass and the general upkeep of the

        Church Graveyard and the Cemetery. The Council to monitor the situation

        and review in six months time. 

 

4)  Items Brought Forward

    

      a)    Blackhouse Lane Pavilion

           The matter to be progressed at the next meeting with the Council’s solicitor

           on Thursday 21st December 2006.

 

            Cllr.P.K.Beer advised the Members of a letter he had received from a

           resident of Wells Hall Road, which concerned the noise from late night

           parties at Cornard United’s Clubhouse. The letter had also been copied to

           the Police and the Babergh Licensing Committee. NOTED 

 

      b) Youth Shelter

            The Council had been successful in gaining a grant from the CDRP.

            The Shelter is now on order and depending on the weather, could be

           installed by Christmas.
