“SAVE OUR SLA’s”

OBJECT TO THE PROPOSED CHANGE TO POLICY CR05 CONCERNING “STRICT CONTROL OF DEVELOPMENT” IN SLA’S – REFERENCE NO 6/5

FOR INCLUSION ON BABERGH DISTRICT COUNCIL (BDC) FORM

AONB/SLA’S/OPEN COUNTRYSIDE

·         Within the plan there is a need for some distinction between the levels of protection

·         The original wording accords with the protection afforded as laid out in the objectives of National Planning Guidance PPG7 and Suffolk County Council Policy ENV4

Existing Local Plan Wording

“Special Landscape Areas will be protected through the strict control of development. Unless there is an overriding national or regional need for development having a material adverse impact on the locality of the site and no alternative site is available, such development will not be acceptable”

Proposed Inspector’s new wording

“Development proposals in Special Landscape Areas will only be permitted where they

·       Maintain or enhance the special landscape qualities of the area, identified in the relevant landscape character assessment

·       Are designed and sited so as to harmonise with the landscape setting”

Conclusions……What do you think………

Suffolk Preservation Society, Richard Ward, Director thinks “the Society is most concerned about the proposed changes. It is difficult to understand the rationale of the Inspector in suggesting the changes to Policy CR05…..Given the special character of the Babergh’s area this Society feels this is undesirable, unnecessary and ill-advised”

Due Process/Good Governance

  • Members of the Strategy Committee agreed this Post Inquiry Modification for public consultation without being provided copies of the Inspector’s Report to read and inadequate time to consider the implications and significant impact on the community

“OPEN SHOOTING SEASON ON ALL SLA’S IN BABERGH DISTRICT”

(Stefan Kosciuszko, Chairman, Save Gainsborough Country Action Group)

If the proposed 170 homes development at Carson’s Drive, Great Cornard, concreting over historic Gainsborough views in the Stour Valley is allowed to happen…….please register your additional objection to this development on a separate BDC form quoting Reference No 3/59
