Multiple Sclerosis (SHIMS)

Page updated - 20 February 2005

Suffolk Help In Multiple Sclerosis (S.H.I.M.S.) was set up by Dr Powell at The Ipswich Hospital in May 2000.  We are a self-help group for people with Multiple Sclerosis (M.S.) run by people with M.S. The group offers physiotherapy, a range of complementary therapies, speakers and has held different functions, the idea being that regular exercise and pampering and the chance to meet other people can be beneficial. Due to various problems connected with M.S. some people around the county were unable to attend in Ipswich and contacted us in connection with setting up a group in their area and we now have a group in Sudbury.

The Sudbury group was set up with a great deal of input and assistance from the Sudbury and District Volunteer Centre in September 2002. Meetings are generally held on the second Tuesday of each month at The Christopher Centre, 10 Gainsborough Street, Sudbury, between 11am and 12.30pm. A physiotherapist and a Reiki complementary therapist are available to this group.

We would like as many people with M.S., their carers and friends to attend the meetings and use it as a chance to get to know each other and discuss their ideas and what they would like from the group. For further information please call Linda Carton on (01787) 221844.
