Suffolk Family Carers Support for people Caring at Home

If you spend time looking after a relative, child, partner, or friend who is frail, ill, or who has a physical or learning disability or mental health problem, then you are a Family Carer.


Suffolk Family Carers main aim is to offer information, support and advocacy to Family Carers in Suffolk.  There are approximately 98,000 adult Family Carers and 4,000 Young Carers in Suffolk whose lives are in some way restricted because they are looking after relatives or friends who are frail, ill, or who have a physical or learning disability or mental health problem.

Suffolk Family Carers is based in Claydon and other offices located in Waveney & Bury St. Edmunds, where we have our Family Carers Information and Support Centre.  We run numerous Projects throughout Suffolk and full details of these, together with information about what we do, support available, news, our 'Whats On' Diary, and various other items of interest to Family Carers can be found on our website. The following Support Services operate out of our Bury St Edmunds Outreach Offices:


Young Carers Project

          This Project offers support and Support Groups for young people aged 9 to 16 who are caring for a family member.

Mental Health Project

          This Projects offers support for Family Carers who look after someone aged 18 to 65 with a severe and enduring mental illness.

Community Support Team

          The Team provide advocacy and support workers, hosts Support Groups & Home Visits to adult Family Carers who care for an adult or child with any long-term illness or disability.
