Full transcription of Frederick Pilgrim’s letter home from the Middle East dated 11th December 1916:
Dec. 11th 1916 1864 Egyptian Exped Force
My Dearest Mum and Dad Just a few lines to you in answer to your most welcome letter which I was very pleased to Received and I am very Glad to hear that you are all quite well as this leaves me the same at present. Well mum Dear do try and cheer up a bit as my Dear Brother is gone to a better home and we shall all meet again some day. So cheer up and try to make the best of it for the sake of us all. Well mum Dear I hope G will get on alright and it mite make a better chap of him, But if you see him tell him I wish him the best of luck. Well mum Dear I think I must Draw this to a close now so kiss little Amy and Dad and all the children for me so Fare well for a little while I still remain Your Everloving son xxx Fred xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxx
